Field, experimental and numerical modelling of tsunami-induced extreme hydrodynamic and debris loading on structures

Date: 18.11.2020; UTC Time: 1:00 PM- 2:00 PM

The talk will present results of a comprehensive interdisciplinary (coastal/structural) conducted over the past 15 years which includes (1) forensic engineering post-tsunami field surveys, (2) experimental modelling and (3) numerical modelling of the complex flow-structure and flow-debris-structure interactions.

Results and lessons learned from this research program have been incorporated in the world's first standard for the design of tsunami-resistant infrastructure, ASCE7-16 Chapter 6: Tsunami Loads and Effects.
