Two-layer liquid sloshing under external excitations

Two-layer liquid sloshing under various types of external excitation is investigated by using a 3D two-phase flow numerical model NEWTANK. The free surface and the interface between two liquid layers are tracked by the multi-layered volume-of-fluid (ML-VOF) method. Resonant responses of upper layer liquid, lower layer liquid, and both layer liquids are studied under different conditions. Special phenomena of reverse flows across the interface are discussed. The nonlinear interaction and enegy transfer between the two layer liquids are analyzed by using wavelet technique.
